Ranveer Singh’s ‘83: West Indies Player Malcolm Marshall’s Son, Mali To Portray His Father

Recently, Ranveer Singh along with the other co-stars of '83 was in Dharamshala for the training and bonding session. While the Gully Boy actor will play the role of legendary cricketer, Kapil Dev, director Kabir Khan is picking up the sons of other players to portray their fathers on-screen. After Chirag Patil, who stepped into the shoes of his father and cricketer Sandeep Patil, latest reports suggest that the son of the late West Indies fast bowler Malcolm Marshall, Mali will be playing him on-screen.

A source close to the makers told Mumbai Mirror that the director Kabir wants to keep the film as realistic as possible. Source revealed, “Mali is a fast bowler and a middle order batsman like his father and suited the part perfectly.” Mirror report further suggests, “Kabir has also approached the sons of other famous West Indian players and talks with them are on, including fast bowler Carl Greenidge, son of Gordon Greenidge. The team is also looking for players who will represent Team England who played India in the semifinals.”

Confirming the same, director Kabir Khan told leading tabloid, “Yes we are thrilled to have Mali Marshall, son of the legend Malcolm Marshall play the role of his father. Not only does he look like his father but his bowling action is also exactly like him. As we all know, Malcolm Marshall was part of the fearsome West Indies quartet of pace bowlers—Marshall, Michael Holding, Joel Garner and Andy Roberts.”

In Dharamshala, the real players of ‘83 team like Kapil Dev, Mohinder Amarnath and Yashpal Sharma dropped by on the sets. They joined some training sessions helmed by coach Balvinder Singh Sandhu. ’83 marks the journey of Indian Cricket Team’s victory against West Indies in the World Cup of 1983.
